Gambling advice

Sports betting has a bad reputation. It was only recently legalised in the US because there was no way to stop punters from betting online, much to the dismay of Vegas. Here are a few tips on how to moderate your betting, especially if you have a penchant for risk and over indulgence.

1) Treat it like any other form of entertainment. Some people spend twenty to go to the cinema at the weekend, you might, as I do, prefer to invest this in the games you will be watching from home. ''But can you not just enjoy the games without betting'', hater will cry. Yes, I can, but you can also download a movie for free at home, but it's more fun at the cinema.

2) Set aside a kitty for your weekend betting (say 5 quid), and treat it like America's credibility on the world stage, it's gone.

3) Be wary of bookmakers 'specials'. The bookies will enhance prices on certain games or accumulators every day for one reason, they are over leveraged. I'll give an example, City are away at Spurs, 95% of bets have come in on the side of City, this is scary for a bookie as a City win would then amount to a substantial loss. They will offer Spurs win at an enhanced price and advertise widely. This will tempt punters to bet Spurs. Two things to always keep in mind, the vast majority of people who have bet think City will win (are they all on the wrong side?). Secondly, the bookies still have the draw in their back pockets ;) .
